Walkers, bikers say 'share the road'
Tuesday, May 20, 2008
PALM BEACH GARDENS — About 40 walkers, runners and bicyclists made a five-mile loop Wednesday night through PGA National to bring attention to non-engine-powered travelers killed using public roadways. Ride of Silence walks also were held in about 20 other Florida communities, including a 10-mile event in in Boca Raton starting at Patch Reef Park. Ride of Silence events also were scheduled in Europe, Australia and South America to mark the annual event. As gas prices increase, more people are trading their vehicles and riding bicycles and walking. Motorists need to be more aware that they must share the road, said Matt Goforth, organizer and owner of a local bicycle shop.
