Bike Hackers Get Whimsical With Two-Wheelers

From Wired of all places...

Bicycles, like cars, are chock-full of parts that can be replaced, but simply switching out silver aluminum rims for hot-pink ones is child's play. Welcome to the world of bike modding, where bicyclists get creative and turn their two-wheelers into rolling works of art and artifice.

Wet is the current theme... FSC #5 offers more splashing...

The current lake level is about 5 feet low, but you would never know it by seeing our Florida race courses. This year, wet seems to be the common theme, however it didnt stop the racers from showing up and testing their medal against the area's top riders. Once again, despite the wet weather, Goneriding and Swamp Club put together a great event. Many thanks to those that made it happen.

Top Story: On Your Mark's own Christine Benkly (laserbikefit.com) takes 3rd place in the women's sport division. Congratulations Dart, we are proud of your accomplishments!

Other notables: Matt "Knobster" Goforth improves to 6th place and seems to be gaining on the top 5, Julie Barker 5th in women's expert, and Robert Bounds 5th in Semi Pro. Robert continues to have great results in a very deep semi pro division. The rest of the laserbikefit.com team also had outstanding results with Sean Smith and Tim Wisner taking 2nd and 5th, respectively in 30+ expert.

Greg Derosa (Team UBC) takes another win continuing his streak...

Congratulations to all of our riders, you represent us well. Keep working hard!

Razorback is closing!!!!!!!!!!!

From Goneriding.com:

Razorback MTB Park Closing
:
We are sad to announce that after a successful seven years of trail riding and mountain bike racing at the Razorback MTB Park in Reddick, Florida the park will be closing, the last day will be Sunday 11-04-07 . The owners of the property have decided to pursue other interests with the property and although we have maintained a good relationship with the owners and they have been very complimentary to our management of the park, the decision is none the less final.

This coming weekend the park hours will be like normal but on the last weekend we will open the park on Thursday 11-1-07, Friday 11-2-07, Saturday 11-3-07 & Sunday 11-4-07 from 9am to dusk and camping and night riding will be allowed all four of those days. We do plan on having an informal farewell party on Saturday night (all are invited, music, bonfire, etc) 11-03-07 at the park. As for food we will be providing enough hot dogs and baked beans for about 150 and we will rely on pot-luck contributions after that, BYOB (bring your own beverages). Again the last day to ride Razorback will be 11-04-08 a Sunday.

This also means that the scheduled final round of the Florida State Championship which was scheduled for Razorback will now be moved to the Santos Trails with the date remaining the same 12-09-07. We feel the Santos location will be the best choice for the final event even though the seventh round is also at the same location, we do plan on running the FSC #7 & FSC #8 courses in opposite directions however.

The popular 12 Hours of Razorback (scheduled for 2-16-08 ) will be moving to a course in the area and we will release the information ASAP.

Also the first round of the SERC series will now be in Gainesville at Haile’s Trails on 3-16-08 .

Please help pass the word as it is such short notice for everyone!

Hailes Trails: Gainesville, FL is a diamond in the rough!

Who named it Hailes Trails anyway?

The trails in Gainesville have always been known as Hailes Trails. Nestled right next to the popular MX park Gatorback is only open for racing weekends. The turnout is always great here, and the field was deep in most classes.

Conditions were near perfect for the entire weekend, and the Laserbikefit.com team was poised to make a move in the overall team standings. Notables today are Robert Bounds (Laserbikefit.com) taking 3rd place in the Semi Pro class and touting an average speed over 14mph! Bounds, you're flying!

Greg Derosa (Team UBC) grabs his first expert win today! Congratulations Greg, we expect more from you yet!

Jamie Knight (Bent's Cycling/buildingchampioncyclistsfl.net), the youngster in semi/pro, is hanging in there with the big boys and will be a force to reckon with next year. We continue to expect great things from Jamie in the next few racing weeks. Keep on plugging...

"Rain Proof" Jacksonville treats riders to epic conditions

A very challenging course, that is usually dry and "rain proof" according to Goneriding's Dave Berger, offered riders a chance to use their bikes as flotation devices. Despite the wet conditions, there were some notables...

Vanvurst 3rd, Derosa 5th at FSC Round #1 in Tallahassee, FL

The Goneriding.com Florida State Championship has begun, as the first round in Tallahasse, FL is complete. On Your Mark Performance Center was there to participate and witness the action. We were represented well.

Congrats to our podium finishers! Trek/VW Southeast Carolyn Vanvurst took 3rd in the Women's Expert class, and UBC's Greg Derosa secured a 5th spot in the Men's 30-39 Expert category.

Riding strong are the father/son combo of Ricky Knight and Jamie Knight. Jamie in his first year at the Senior Expert level showed good speed and finished 15th in a talent deep field. Ricky finished 12th in the Men's 40-49 Expert category. Also mixing it up was Matt "Knobby" Goforth, finishing 8th out of 31 in the Men's 30-39 Sport category, and Julie Barker 7th in Women's Expert.

We are also proud to announce our 2007 FSC points team:

Robert Bounds - Semi-Pro/Senior Expert, Shawn Smith - Men's 30-39 Expert, Tim Wisner - Men's 30-39 Expert, Matt Goforth - Men's 30-39 Sport, and Julie Barker - Women's Expert

We are off to a great start with a win from Shawn, a 3rd from Tim, Julie 7th, and Matt collecting 8th place points. Robert had a mechanical that forced him out of the race.

During the awards ceremony there was a moment of silence to honor Sean Livesay an avid cyclist and sport racer who was killed earlier this month. Sean's USA Cycling profile, and blog. Rest in peace.

Again, congratulations to our clients, and to our points team for a great opening weekend!

Chopper Night, October 24th, 7:30pm

Picture about 200 people, dressed in whatever hideous costume is designated for that night, and riding nothing but home-made bikes acting like a bunch of knuckleheads rolling thru City Place and down Clematis...

I've seen choppers made from sofas, tandems with canoe shells around them, double decker bikes, bikes that have folding pivots and rides like a snake, wooden framed bikes, and bikes that rival their motorized counterparts... it is truly the most unique gathering you'll ever witness! I promise!

Here's a quote from the creator of the Freak Bike Militia, Kenny Prather:

CHOPPERNITE HALLOWEEN CRUISE.......
I have heard from very reliable sources (wink wink) that Wednesday, October 24th, is the next Choppernite.
Costumes are encouraged as well as bicycles other than Mtb's and Road bikes.
Beach cruisers are perfect. Choppers and Tall Bikes are even better!!
Meet at Southern Blvd. and the Intracoastal around 7:00 and we leave at 7:30 sharp.
Headlight and tailights are required even though this is an unsupervised, ride at your own risk deal, we still need to obey the law.
See ya there.

Everyone is invited. Kids too! Round trip you're looking at 3-7 miles, maybe... its a fun for the whole family event. Julie and I usually ride a singlespeed or beach cruiser, with beer cooler in tow... i can answer questions if needed... if anyone wants to come up for it, please let me know so we can meet up.

A poor riding position can actually trigger Urinary Tract Infections?

A client of On Your Mark Performance Center found this article in Women's Health Magazine.

She thought it was interesting because the M.D. cited in the article mentioned that when your spinal alignment is off, from sitting improperly on your exercise bike can actually trigger a UTI.

Your riding position should not be taken for granted. A laser bike fit from On Your Mark PC will ensure not only performance gains and comfort, but we can take care of your goods too!

Event: SWFBUD presents Bicycle Bash by the Bay - November 4th

Quote:

Hi Matt:

The Bicycle Bash by the Bay is officially on!

It's set for Sunday, Nov 4 from 11 am-4 pm at Vinoy Park in downtown St. Petersburg. It's a plum site and SWFBUD (South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers) is happy to present the bicycle festival to celebrate and promote bicycling. In fact, the Florida Bicycle Association just named the Bicycle Bash by the Bay as the "Event of the Year."

We're now inviting businesses that sell bike products to have a space at this year's Bicycle Bash. I hope you join us.

Businesses are also free to donate any money as a "Friend of SWFBUD" toward signs, banners and T-shirts.

I have attached some flyers and feel free to share the word in South Florida.

All the best,

Alan Snel
Coordinator for SWFBUD

Thanks for inviting us Alan!

On Your Mark Performance Center will be there! We will be showcasing the Wobble Naught bike fitting process, and Sole Custom Footbeds, so please stop by and say hello!

TV Personality Bob Roll visits South Florida

Courtesy of Kryptonite Locks, Bob Roll makes a stop in South Florida. The Tour "day" France commentator drank two Heineken beers and answered questions for a good 2 hours. Living up to his reputation he was very entertaining, and was excited about the chance to speak with us "flat-landers".

Walking in the door, Bob was there to greet and take photos. I told him we dont have mountains, but we do have nasty headwinds. He replies, "Both directions?"

Right: Matt Goforth and Julie Barker, owners of On Your Mark Performance Center, pause for a photo with Bob Roll.

The Loggerhead Triathlon in Jupiter, FL

Matt Goforth, owner of On Your Mark Performance Center, will be competing in the Loggerhead Triathlon this weekend, August 11, 2007. This will be Matt's first triathlon, and we wish him luck!

Lakeland or bust...

There's a strong group of riders in the central Florida area, and On Your Mark travelled to Lakeland, FL for a group fit session. Our time there was a success thanks to the hospitality of Lakeland GNC owner Kevin Parker. Mr. Parker allowed us to set up in his office, and be our host for the week. Kevin is also a competitive road racer in Category 3, and we anticipate continued improvement from him since becoming Wobble Naught!

We are also looking for great things out of Sarasota resident Greg Derosa who is an expert level mountain bike racer. Greg and I raced against each other in the 2005 Goneriding FSC, and he could be the most improved mountain bike racer in the state. We hope his new bike fit will allow him to reach his potential and continue down the road of success!

Another athlete to look out for is Nicky Ezell of St. Petersburg, FL. Nicky will be competing in the upcoming Cancun 70.3 Ironman.

I enjoyed working with everyone! Good luck to you in your upcoming competitions!

Note: August 15-16, 2007 I'll be returning to the Lakeland GNC for another group fit session. If you would like to get fit please call, or email, and schedule an appointment.

A paradox in cycling?

Interesting Article from the NY Times.

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

One fit for ALL...

Many say our fit is for racers... I think its for everyone, cause we need to fight headwinds, go uphill, and push when we need to. Do you buy clothes without trying them on?

Long time friend of mine, a traveling salesman, has taken a long respite from the bike. During his time off he was surfing, and enjoying riding his Harley Davidson Street Glide. "Just loving life" he often tells me. Recently, he purchased a new Isaac carbon road bike in hopes to rekindle that love of riding again. He spent some time setting up the new bike just like his older, very comfortable bike only to find out his new Isaac doesn't feel quite right. "I'm not connected with it".

I did not pressure him for a fit, however I mentioned there is a difference in the seat tube angle of the two bikes and if he's trying to match them it just wont work. Seat tube angle is an integral part of our fit. We want perfection as far as fore/aft over the bottom bracket goes, and our methods will ensure we get it right.

So, he stops into town one day with bike in tote. "I want the Wobble Naught fit" he says.

Two weeks since his fit, he feels like a kid again. Total rejuvenation of his cycling passion! Not only more enthusiastic, he feels as strong, if not stronger, than ever before! "I really feel it when I go hard".

"I cant imagine my position on the bike getting any better than this!"

Thanks for your business, John. Glad you found your way back on the bike, and loving it more than ever.

Why get a Wobble-Naught fit?

There's no better methodology for measurement of the human body, we unveil details of performance that can't be discerned by just looking at someone on their bike. By taking into account precise measurements of the foot, legs, hips, spine, shoulders, and arms we provide precise alignment for a total body fit. This process provides perfect cleat placement, saddle fore/aft, saddle height/tilt, stem rise/length needs, and handlebar position, the end result is pure comfort!

A Wobble-naught fit keeps bikers riding longer, faster, and more comfortable than they thought possible. Our solutions were developed through the use of computer aided design technology (CAD) and precise measurements of anatomy to make the bike an extension of the cyclist.

There is no better fit!
